I have included BBC footage from the past of an interview with a prominent Valley Kashmiri leader.

His words are revealing of political realities that have seldom changed today.

Where are the voices from “Azad” Jammu & Kashmir about the plight of ordinary Paharis?

  1. @ 03.00, he says the Indians are treating the Kashmiris like how the French treated the Algerians, but that the Kashmiris are not behaving like the Algerians who fought back – this footage comes from the early 1960s. How much has changed since then! Whether the resistance to Indian ‘rule’ has been violent or peaceful – it seems the Kashmir conflict is a protracted one with many victims and oppressors, and not everyone agrees with the pro-independence cause. Ultimately it is ordinary people, Muslim or otherwise who are the real victims!
