Rags To Riches: Mirpur

Rags to Riches book is on a recent history of Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Mirpur was the poorest district with high poverty, high unemployment and low literacy levels; most people found life a daily struggle to survive.

Since the start of migration from Mirpur over 50 years ago, people quality of lives has improved from being the poorest to the wealthiest.

This is my tribute to the courageous people of Mirpur who were the early pioneering in migration in 50’s and in 60’s. They encountered severe problems with language, environment, climate, accommodations, unemployment, diet and racism but they were resilient people who viewed new opportunities with enthusiasm and a desire to succeed.

Today a large Mirpuri population is living all over the world and their largest numbers are in the UK.

My way forwards and recommendations are from personal analysis of each heading.

This book is my dedication to early migrants and my ancestors as well as all those residents of Mirpur, who have never lived to see the new prosperous lives.
